Assessment
Assessment - Telehealth Only (Zoom)
Emma-Leigh is accepting a limited number of assessments (not follow-up therapy available).
Emma-Leigh provides comprehensive, evidence‑based psychological assessments to support clarity, understanding, and practical next steps. Assessments are conducted with care, transparency, and respect for each person’s unique nervous system, history, and strengths. Where appropriate, assessments integrate clinical interview, standardised testing, behavioural observations, and collateral information to ensure a well‑rounded and accurate picture. Assessments are tailored to the purpose of referral and the individual’s context.
Emma-Leigh does not do Parenting Capacity or Forensic Assessments.
Cognitive Assessment (IQ Testing)
Cognitive assessments evaluate an individual’s thinking, learning, and information‑processing abilities, including verbal comprehension, memory, attention, problem‑solving, and reasoning skills. These assessments provide insight into overall cognitive functioning, highlight strengths and areas of difficulty, and support educational, diagnostic, and planning decisions.
May be helpful for:
-
Understanding learning and thinking profiles
-
Identifying cognitive strengths and challenges
-
School or academic planning
-
Supporting access to accommodations, funding, or services
Learning Assessments
Learning assessments examine academic skills alongside the cognitive processes that support learning. This includes assessment of reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics, as well as underlying attention, memory, and processing skills. These assessments help identify specific learning disorders and clarify why learning may be more difficult in certain areas.
May be helpful for:
-
Identifying specific learning disorders (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia)
-
Understanding barriers to learning
-
Informing targeted intervention and support strategies
-
School documentation and recommendations
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessments
ASD assessments focus on understanding autism spectrum disorder by examining social communication, interaction styles, repetitive or restricted behaviours, sensory sensitivities, and developmental history.
Emma-Leigh takes a strengths‑based and neuroaffirming approach, recognising the diverse ways autism presents across individuals, genders, and across the lifespan.
Includes consideration of:
-
Developmental and psychosocial history
-
Current functioning and support needs
-
Differential diagnosis
Attention‑Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessments
ADHD assessments are designed to evaluate attention‑deficit/hyperactivity disorder by examining patterns of inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, executive functioning, and emotional regulation across settings and over time. These assessments consider developmental history and current functioning to differentiate ADHD from stress, trauma, or burnout.
May be helpful for:
-
Clarifying attention and executive functioning difficulties
-
Understanding lifelong patterns of ADHD
-
Supporting treatment planning, accommodations, or referrals
Personality Assessments
Personality assessments explore enduring patterns of thinking, feeling, relating, and coping. They can help clarify long‑standing emotional or interpersonal difficulties and provide deeper insight into personality structure, attachment patterns, and emotional regulation.
May be helpful for:
-
Understanding complex or long‑standing psychological difficulties
-
Clarifying overlapping or unclear presentations
-
Informing therapy focus and treatment planning
-
Supporting self‑understanding and personal insight
General Diagnostic Assessments
General diagnostic assessments are appropriate when there is uncertainty about what may be contributing to emotional, behavioural, cognitive, or functional difficulties. These assessments integrate multiple sources of information to support accurate diagnosis and the development of tailored intervention and treatment plans.
May explore:
-
Mood and anxiety presentations
-
Trauma and stress‑related responses
-
Neurodevelopmental considerations
-
Differential diagnosis
